The Inland Waterways witnesses yearly, the influx of water hyacinth which greatly impedes the operations and activities of all waterways stakeholders. The Authority in partnership with an organization called Mitimeth has been able to transform the water hyacinth into marketable products such as key-holders, mats, bags, jewelry, just to mention a few. These items are manufactured by women in various communities who received training from Mitimeth.
The initiative trained and certified forty (40) women in Epe and Fifty (50) in the Badagry axis in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
The Authority is looking to scale up the initiative this year 2018 and intends to partner with Mitimeth, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), FCMB and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. The initiative is intended to be executed this year in all five divisions of the State.
