LASWA initiated a one-day campaign called “Keeping the Waterways Clean” this initiative was as a result of the current non-desirable state of our waterways. The Lagos waterways is constantly exposed to industrial waste from companies, human waste, litters such as cans, bottles, empty food wrappers has become a common sight on our waterways. All this affects the aesthetic value of the waterways whilst also endangering the marine life and use by boat operators and passengers.
The exercise was held at Ebute-Ero/Elegbata area Lagos Island in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, LAWMA and Wecyclers and volunteer groups from the community to support the initiative.
The clean-up exercise and campaign will seek to address waterways waste challenges by educating the public on hygiene and safe practices in which to engage the waterways and its environment whilst also actively picking litters and cleaning the waterways and its immediate environment
